Coke Floats, Pizza, American Grandstand, and the Last Week of School

Wow ! It is finally here. The last week of school. What does that look and feel like? Well for our 5th graders, it will be full of great memories and activities. This week will be over before you know and you will be on your way to middle school. You should feel proud that you have accomplished the first part of your school training.. many of you will take-off in middle and high school. What makes us happy is when we see you become freshmen in college! That is a BIG deal!!! So, start thinking, because you will need to build and reinforce your study habits these next few years! 9th grade will be here before you know it!
Last week was very busy with American Grandstand! We did quite a few shows to fit everyone in, and the parent show Thursday night was a huge success! I know many of you are still singing those songs!
Friday we celebrated the end of Jr. Achievement with Coke Floats and Pizza. We sure enjoyed Mr. Pritchard! He really helped you guys understand business. My favorite activity was the last activity involving he string! What great fun that was!
This week will be busy as ever as well! Make sure you check the side bar to see all the activities. Remember Thursday is the trip to Wild Adventures- and remember the talk about not buying all those USELESS souvenirs! Just money for lunch- probably $25.00 for the day is plenty and don't forget your water bottle! Water is the best beverage for you on a hot day!
Our class party is Tuesday, so you will not need to bring your lunch that day! We will have our 5th grade picnic on Wednesday, so you will not need a lunch that day either!
See you in class!

The Grossest Thing Ever... and some Ronald Fun!

So last week Jordan and I went to inspect the retention pond over on the side of the school. On the way in, we decided to cut through the field, and then cut up between the portables. Well imagine our surprise when we stumbled upon this colony of worms swimming in their new lake! It was DISGUSTING to say the least! Worms were everywhere... to bad those blue jays were not around, or they could have had a great breakfast!
There were literally 100's of worms swimming back and forth across the sidewalk. We didn't want to stick around and see their death, so Jordan took a few pictures and we went back in!
Like we said.... they were everywhere! Jordan was delighted with his find!
With all this rain we are seeing TONS of examples of erosion all over the school!
McDonalds has spent a great partner with us this year! We have had so much fun with them supporting us all year long! Well today, Ronald himself came out for our Reading Celebration! Now to be honest, the kids were not all that excited to go... not sure what they thought they were going to see, but Ronald had a show for them! He was amazing! The funniest thing ever! We could not stop laughing! Really... this clown (Ronald) should be in stand-up somewhere because he kept us in stitches!
He was cracking up that we were taking his picture! I told him he would be BLOG famous!
Mrs. Heather (who is Ronald's PR manager and Mrs. Rowan's tap teacher) allowed us to stay after and get our class picture with him! Thanks Mrs. Heather and Ronald... YOU BOTH ROCK!

After Ronald, we returned to the room to finish our Calendar Math Post Test! Yes, contrary to popular belief we are still working (S-O-M-E)! The next few days we will be wrapping up many of our post tests. This is a great way to show growth-over-time for our students!
After the Math Test we watched My Fair Lady! What a classic! I don't think it held the students' attention as much as The Sound of Music, but it did get quite a bit of laughs! Great movie!
We are also in the process of checking back in all our books! Today it looked like we might actually be 100% on all of our textbooks! We still have a few missing library books- remember the books or the money by this Friday! You DO NOT want to start middle school with a balance owing on your account..... THAT IS NOT A GOOD FIRST IMPRESSION!!!
American Grandstand practice after school was great! Thank you to all of our parents who came and picked our students up! We could not do this without you!
We do have quite a bit going on these last few days, and any free time you have feel free to drop in and spend some time with us as we wrap-up our elementary experience!
We will practice Grandstand tomorrow, then our school shows will run all day Thursday with and evening show that night! Friday is our pizza party with Jr. Achievement! And then next week..... well let's just say we will be busy!
Stay dry!

Costumes and Practice, Practice, Practice

Students should be humming "oldies" tunes as they hang around the house this weekend. I've even learned a few new ones. Letters went home on Friday with important info about our upcoming presentation.
1. Students need to get costumes together. Every effort has been made to keep this low cost and
easy to find.
2. The letter needs to be signed and returned on Tues.
3. Students have after school practice on Tues. from 3:15 until 4:30 in the multipurpose room. Please pick them up there promptly at 4:30. When you sign the letter you are acknowledging that they have permission to stay after school. IF your child lost the letter-please send in note giving them permission to stay after school on May 26.
4. The Fine Arts teachers are preparing a spaghetti dinner for Thursday evening. Orders are due on Tuesday. The cost is $5.00 a plate. If you have lost the order form and want your child or family to enjoy this culinary delight, please send in money and we will fill out a form for you in class on Tuesday.
5. Plan to come early on Thursday if you want a seat ! This has been SRO every year.
6. DVD's will be available for purchase--I can't remember if it is $5 or $6.
7. We will collect donations on Thurday evening--this will be used to fund the 5th Grade Picnic being held after the Awards Ceremony on June 3.
8. Reread. This is a lot of important information.

Around the World Vacation Reports

Australia's facts were presented by this group. Stewie and Zelma narrated a power point while Boris displayed the map and flag.

Our class worked on group presentations about different countries during classtime for the past few weeks. We learned a lot; not just about geography and cultures, but about audience manners, how to use (or not use) time wisely and how to collaborate with team members. Mrs. Rowan and Mrs. Yadon expected one outcome and experienced another as this task came to completion--It reminds me of Sam and his planning for the Halloween party in My Side of the Mountain--he planned a nice party but . . . . . . .

We learned a lot (notice this is 2 words not 1) about Cambodia from this group's power point presentation. Great job girls! Their report was nicely complimented with coconut pound cake, banana pudding, and bananas in coconut milk and brown sugar. Yum.

They were dancing, and walking.....

and swaying to the music!Students are enjoying practicing for American Grandstand. We are now outside on the stage, and we must say.... We do look really GOOD!

In between songs, we are all just sitting around singing (or dancing) to the moves on stage! It is really neat how students learn all songs!

Coach Scott is helping us return safely to school after our evacuation drill!
This is the line to "get back to school"!

We ran out of pews, so Jordan and Daniel hung out by the flag!

Congratulations to Jason - 2nd place for Science Fair! Way to go Jason!

We have another very busy week ahead of us! MAP testing is this morning, then our end-of-year math test this afternoon. In between we will be working on our Social Studies projects getting them ready for our presentations on Thursday!

12 1/2 days until you become a Middle School Student!
