Can You Say S-N-O-W C-O-L-D?

Can you believe it? It is snowing in Louisville! I just can't believe we left Florida at 80 degrees (We drove up in flip-flops and shorts!) and it is now in the low 30's and dropping!

I will make it to the CVS today or tomorrow and try to upload some pictures! It is certainly not Florida!
Are you all busy making plans for New Years? Mrs. Rowan doesn't even know if she will be awake at 12:00?
Take care... I can't wait to start our Science experiments! We will also add fish, so we will get them once the elodea arrives!
We also have some great Social Studies lessons coming up! You will not want to miss even A DAY of school!

Worms! Pill Bugs! Elodea!

Mrs. Yadon just sent off an order for all of the above. They should arrive either Jan. 8 or 15. We will be designing inquiries using LIVE plants and insects. I wonder which lucky ones will get to live in our terrarium? I can't wait to get some fish fro our aquarium too. Do you think our radish plants have been growing? I left them on table near the windows so they would get a little sunlight. We will have to see on Monday. Science is such cool stuff!

Jeopardy Kids

I just got an email from Jeopardy. Are you a fan? They are having an online test for kids ages 10-12 on January 13. Your mom or dad must register you. Go to jeopardy.com and look for the section about becoming a contestant, click, then look for kids online test. Good Luck!

Louisville Kentucky ROCKS!

Hey Guys! I had a little bit of time this afternoon so I tried to dress-up the blog a bit! I have been taking great pictures of downtown Louisville! You know they really LIKE the derby here! They also have a really cool skyway walkway that goes all over town so you don't even have to get outside in the cold!

Mr. Rowan's cousin is playing in a basketball town over in J-town tonight, so we will be going to another basketball game! They have some big kids up here! One neat thing about Louisville is that they have all these abbreviated towns - J-town, B-town, E-town etc. and I believe Mr. Rowan has relatives on every corner up here!

I did get a chance to go by the Public Library again before we left and I am reading Wicked- The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West! Macey and Briley are reading too! So, I hope you are still enjoying the break- sleeping in a little and spending time with your family!

Mrs. Yadon and I had a great time at Marley! What a movie! There were some interesting movies coming out that we will have to vote on!

Take care- I am going to drop by CVS and have a disc made so I can post pictures! I left my USB chord in Franklin, and have been using my printer! Pictures to come!

A Really Good Time--- and quite a few tissue!

Well the movie was a hit! Just as good (sad) as the book! I think Mrs. Rowan and Mrs. Yadon both left there in tears!

And after the movie, Mrs. Rowan headed to Louisville, Kentucky! We drove in about 4:30 in the morning and it was C-O-L-D! Not flip-flop and shorts weather for sure!
Today was a very pretty weather day here as well! Our hotel is The Galt House and we are right on the Ohio River. I will take some pictures tomorrow and post to the BLOG! We will be here through Friday to attend a funeral for Mr. Rowan's dad.
Enjoy the rest of your break!

Marley- This Saturday at Regal Cinemas at 10:45 am

And that doesn't mean to show up at 10:45! To be late is to be late, to be on time is to be late, to be early is to be on time. You will be very sad if the show is sold out.

Seriously, Mrs. Rowan and Mrs. Yadon will be there about 10:15--we want to get good seats! Just remember to buy tickets for the 10:45 showing, NOT the 10:15 showing. We hope to see all of our students and their family members if they can make it. We really do miss seeing your eager faces each morning.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to Room 138

Are You as E-X-C-I-T-E-D as my Kids!

Hi Friends! Merry Christmas Eve! The table is set, the food is cooking, and we are taking a quick moment to update the BLOG. I hope your vacation days have been good! I have already read 3 great books from my trip to the library! I can't wait to go back.
Peppermint is getting ready to leave us. Briley and Macey were actually a little sad this morning! But.... for Peppermint to leave means Santa came! This was the night of our neighborhood luminary! What fun that was!

Even our dogs Lilo and Stitch got to come out and play!

And roll around, and act like real dogs!

Mrs. Rowan's house with all the lights on!

I know many of you are anxiously awaiting the arrival of the Big Guy tonight! Most of us already have so much more than others, we have homes, clean water, electricity, food- that is more than 1/2 the world!
Marley movie times should be out tomorrow, so check back for our meeting time on Saturday!
Merry Christmas!

Sights You R-E-A-L-L-Y Must See this Christmas Break!

When we arrived at Hemming Plaza low and behold a HAWK was looking for food! There was not a rat to be seen! A Rowan first- we boarded the Skyway express at King Street and rode down to Hemming Plaza, and guess who was waiting!

After being greeted by Santa, we walked across the square to the Main Library. It is so nice! They really did a great job! Did you know you can go on Sunday and get into MOCA (museum next door) FREE!

They even had "Wild About Books!" This was our Book of the Month a few years ago! Bob the Builder!

Treasure Island

They even had a Laura Ingalls Wilder tree!

Dr. Seuss- Green Eggs and Ham!

Each tree is themed after a book! They have the best decorations!
The trees are AWESOME! They are all over the downtown library! You can view the trees and check out the trees for FREE!!!

After the library, we walked down to the Landing for lunch, and then walked back to Hemming Plaza and boarded the Skyway Express!
What a great day for under $20.00! Had I been thinking..... we could have taken a picnic lunch and ate in the park- it was beautiful outside!
Tuesday from 4-9 it is F-R-E-E at the Cummer Museum (in Riverside). We are going to check out their decked out Christmas trees tomorrow! It is great to live in a city that has F-R-E-E things to do with your kids!

National Christmas Tree - A tree that Unites!

We made it! This week went by really fast, and we enjoyed learning about many holidays around the world! We had a blast making our Gingerbread Houses, and we will celebrate later today with pizza, lemonade, and cookies!

As we leave for break try to reflect on your past year- all the things you have learned, all the people who have helped you and the promise that the New Year brings!

We will continue to post over the break, so send me pictures if you have them! We will post movie time soon.

A Sweet Sticky Good Time!

Mario must confess.... he ate on his house ALL day long! Zelma is eating her house as we speak!
Eduardo can't wait to get his home! A Sweet Treat for the entire break!
Jason showed restraint all day! We wonder what happened when he got home!

Daniel built his to eat with all his favorite ingredients!

Klaudia's house award - Fluffy White Sensation
After the sugar drop, we watched the Sound of Music...
What a captive audience, we couldn't believe some of you had never watched this before!

Snowman- CHECK
Marshmallow man - CHECK
We are all smiles today as we build our houses!
Mrs. Hartless, Hollaway, and Harris built as well!

The rest of the 5th grades are here!

Most of our students ate as much as they put on their houses!

A big thank-you to Mrs. Underkofler for helping us out! It smelled like a candy shop, and when we finished here, we went over to our room and had hot chocolate and cookies, fondue and sparkling grape juice! Needless to say WE ENJOYED RECESS!
