We studied this......

OKEECHOBEE COUNTY, FL -- What's 17 feet long, 26 inches around and unwanted in your back yard?
That would be a 207 pound Burmese python.
It was found Thursday afternoon on private property in central Florida and killed.
Officials with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) checked the long, long reptile for a microchip, which would have indicated the snake has been registered as a pet, but did not find one.
They also scanned the snake's stomach contents, but didn't find anything identifiable inside.
The FWC has been working with the State for years to try to prevent exotic snakes in the wild. People who want to keep them as pets must register them and keep them caged.
Any python larger than 2 inches in diameter must be implanted with a microchip. This one was 26 inches across.
"The capture of this large python shows us how well these snakes can thrive in the wild and create a dangerous situation after illegal release or escape," said FWC Chairman Rodney Barreto. "It also illustrates why the FWC is partnering with other agencies to implement python control measures in South Florida. We will continue to push for additional measures to control the spread of Burmese pythons in the Everglades where they are reproducing in large numbers."
Just two weeks ago, the FWC began a permit program allowing reptile experts to capture and euthanize these snakes near the Everglades. Five pythons have been captured since then.

It is so cool when what we study in class shows up on the news! Do you remember why this is dangerous to these parts?... other than the song... I'm being swallowed by boa constrictor!

Do NOT MISS This Friends!

We were lucky this year to see the shuttle launch, now we can see it in space! How cool is that?

The space station with the shuttle docked to it will be visible in Jacksonville again on July 27th at 9:53 p.m. That night the two will travel across the night sky from the west/northwest to the south/southwest.

If you look at it, send us a comment about what you saw!

The summer is flying by! I can hardly believe August is knocking at the door. This week the freshman experience starts at Wolfson for some of our basketball players, we are playing in a big local tournament, and we have some trips planned to meet-up with Mrs. Plish, visit the library, go to the beach, and visit with my cousin from Tennessee.

Today is Macey's double digit birthday! We are going to celebrate at the pool and then out to dinner! Who knows where?

Summer.... Don't You Just Love IT!!!

Everyone LOVES an ICEE and Jackson is no exception! Our new little guy is doing great! Of course you know he has three full-time mommas~
So... we are really in to our summer break and I know this because many of you are READY for school to start again. That is all I hear from many of the kids I see on a regular basis... man... I can't wait for school to start! Face it... you guys love the routine of school, friends, and great teachers! We are gearing up for school as well. Next week I think I am actually going to work on some stuff for next year... so do us a favor.... tell us some of your favorite things you did and some of the things that you could have done without (of course, within reason!).
I think Mrs. Rowan is home for the summer now. Originally I was going away to camp next week, but now I am staying home.... a lot to do around here!
Mrs. Yadon has been busy too! But I think she is sticking around to... after all we do need to have a little fun before school starts!
Has anybody heard from their middle school. I know a lot of schools will start orientations, parent information meetings, and student tours this month and at the beginning of August. Be sure to check with your school so you are ready on DAY 1.
I have been at music camp all week at church and we are having a blast! It is great to see all the kids singing with their props! Next week I plan on getting some beach and pool time going :-)
I am off to the library tomorrow.... oh what to get??????
I also plan on updating the blog in anticipation of the new school year so be on the look-out for that is well!
Enjoy these final weeks and don't forget to read!

A great view!

This is what we see when we look off our middle deck! It is so green up here right now! Completely different than in the winter. I will have to take a picture off the top deck so you can see the Smoky Mountains :-)

Say Hello, and How are You?

Oh we are having a great summer! We are on our annual trip to Gatlinburg and we are having a great time. It is so much cooler in the mountains! Today it was in the 70's, and a little cloudy. We went to the Aquarium and wow were there some neat things there! It sure would be fun to go here instead of the Marine Science Center! They have some great hands-on activities. They also have a "live" tank with horseshoe crabs!
Mrs. Rowan has read some great books this summer! In fact, this very week I plan on reading about six!!!! I think I already have my 25 for next year in the bag!!
Enjoy your summer!
