A Productive Week

* Inventor Reports were presented on Thursday and Friday! What a great job our class did! We have hung some of our posters in the main hall and on our bulletin board, so stop by - you might learn something new!
* In Science we reviewed rotation and revolution. Ask your student to explain how this causes day and night and our seasons. We will be working with weathering and erosion next week. Can you find evidence of this around your house or neighborhood?
*Smencils will be sold on Friday Feb. 5th and Friday Feb. 12th. The cost is $2.00. Available scents are: Strawberry Cream, Vanilla Cream, Love Candy, Raspberry Truffle, and Chocolate Mint. Each Smencil comes with a heart and neck chain.
* Also available will be Smencil bookmarks. These will be on sale for $1.00

* 25 days until FCAT in case you want to know. A Math Study Guide was sent home today. This was created by a teacher at WRE. It has a lot of good FCAT information in it!
* Spelling, vocabulary, and reading test Monday. Your student should have their book with them.

Enjoy your weekend!

CHAMPS ----- and turning 50!

or at least that is what PTA called us today! WOOT-WOOT Room 138 raised the most money in 5th Grade for our first ever FUN RUN!!!
The coveted Golden Shoe!!!
DJ Run A Lot served up great music and ran a few laps with us!
PTA, as always, passed out yummy snacks!

Leroy, in the red hat, ran the entire time!!

Coach D with the bull horn!

Coach Scott was encouraging us all day long!!

Mario doing the "squeeze" method! Happy 50th Birthday Bubble Wrap!!

Macey and Maurisha popping away!

Katrina and Leroy busy with bubble wrap!

Students wrote in their planners FCAT dates today. Make sure there are no conflicting appointments during those dates. We will test Tuesday - the following Wednesday. We like to serve our students breakfast on those days, so be on the look out for our food donation list. We would like to have juice, fruit, muffins, biscuits, etc. In the past we have had groups of students sponsor certain days! It makes it really nice to have breakfast in the room and just chill out!

We will have a Valentines Exchange on February 12th. If your student participates they MUST bring in a Valentine for each student in the room. We are also accepting cookies, cupcakes, chips, and drinks for that day as well. We will have a luncheon and exchange at the same time.
Stay tuned for information on Poetry Notebooks AND Science Fair!!

Has anybody seen January?

We are trying a new dismissal procedure that helps our students get in some much needed reading time! So far, it has gone really well.

Where has this month gone? Has anybody seen her??? We are closing in on February really quick, and before you know it FCAT will be here. To help us get ready it will be very important to be at school on TIME EVERY day!!

The district has put together "ramp-up" materials that will help us help your students! We will be participating in some great Science!

Also- congrats on our FUN RUN! On the first day we had $478.00!! Our parents and
students rock!!! I heard from Mrs. Yadon today that we got even more money in today and tomorrow if everyone brings in $2.00 we will meet our goal for the BBQ Party!!

Remember - report cards come home 2/2!

It is with much regret...

that I post to tell you of the passing of our dear friend, and beloved teacher Ms. Harris. Ms. Harris went to sleep Friday night and did not wake up Saturday morning. We are just heart broken over her death.

Mrs. Kornblum will have grief counselors at the school Tuesday, and we will work to assure that all students are safe and secure.

Funeral services for Ms. Harris will take place Monday, January 18 @ 2pm - Arlington Park Cemetery located at 6920 Lonestar Road.

Ms. Harris was loved by many, and she will be missed greatly.

Animal Kingdom it IS!!

The 5th grade teachers met, and we have chosen Animal Kingdom for our end of the year trip. This trip will take place Thursday, June 10th. We will leave the school at 7:00, which means you must be here at 6:45.
Chaperones can join us as well! They may either ride the bus down with us, or follow us in a car. Animal Kingdom closes at dusk, so it may not be worth driving your own vehicle.
We do not have a cost yet, but it should average around $55.00 per person (less if you are a chaperone and drive your own car.)

Stay tuned for more details, but spend some time looking over the website for Animal Kingdom so you know what is there!!

Snow in Jacksonville Really?

Why yes it can!!!!
Beauclerc's awesome PTA is hosting a fun run for our school. This event encourages our students to secure fans to help them raise money for their run. The run will actually take place on January 27th. If the students of Beauclerc are able to raise $12,000.00 in pledges, then we will have a "snow" day at Beauclerc!!!

Pledge forms are coming home today. If every student has at least $10.00 in pledges we would meet our goal as a school!!!

In Social Studies students received their inventors for our inventor reports. As a class we also created a guide to help us in our research. Each student was given a typed copy. These reports will be due Friday, January 28th. Your student may need help with this report at home - access to a computer, trip to the library etc.

Don't forget Monday is a holiday - NO SCHOOL!! Next Friday is a Teacher Planning Day - NO SCHOOL!!!!

Report Cards will come home FEBRUARY 2nd!

Brrrr... It's Cold in Here!!!

There must be some learning in the ATMOSPHERE!!! Working in groups to perfect our mad skills in Reading!
Getting busy in Center time!!

We love Social Studies!!

Leroy and Joe reading their parts in a Social Studies play.

Even though it is cold, we are still making it outside! These pull-up bars are a favorite of ours!! These plants actually sprouted in bags with wet paper towels from beans in a bag of 15 bean soup! Amazing!!!
This is our new class pets.. There are fish in the bottom and plants on the top. We are excited to see how an ecosystem changes over time, and how the water cycle works. The plants on the top are from a previous experiment.

Our surprise visitor must of had their pictures deleted accidentally.. I can't seem to find them. However, David, brought in the cutest newborn baby squirrel that he is nursing as an infant. It was so sweet!!! It was on a two hour feeding schedule! He was so cute though!! Thanks David!
We have been rockin and rollin this week! It has been a fantastic first week back!!!!

Magnet Mania

We have had a great first day back! We hit the ground running, and have built our aqua-terrarium, explained the water cycle, and learned about expeditions heading west through the United States.

We also learned about our new center expectations!! Be sure to ask you student about Reading expectations for the next nine weeks.

You should have received your magnet application in the mail over the holidays. Be sure to look closely at all dates. Many schools require principal signature on the form in order to be counted. Magnet Mania is this Saturday at the Fairgrounds from 11:00-3:00. This is a great time to learn about all the middle school programs our county has to offer.

Once you select your school(s) make sure you contact that school to get their tour information. Many schools offer both day and night tours.

If you have any questions about the Magnet Program, please contact the District Office at 390-2000.

Don't forget duPont's Open House this Thursday from 6:00-8:00. Even if you are planning on applying for a Magnet program, you still may want to attend this event, in case you are placed on a waiting list. They are doing great things at duPont!!

It's Official.... It's NOW College Basketball Time!!

Well, with many of the bowl games ending this week, we are excited in the Rowan household for college hoops! Our beloved Cards (that would be Louisville) take on Kentucky tomorrow at 3:30. That is a big rival game for us! We will be chaning our flags out in the morning and putting back up our big CARDS flag!!!!

If anyone was watching the OK/Gonzaga game New Year's Eve you saw for the first time in a very long time, an OK player crash the backboard! It was unreal!!! We haven't seen that in a long time... If you missed it you can see the highlights on ESPN.com.

Are you ready to come back to school? I think both Mrs. Yadon and I have had a great time off spending time with our family and friends. We are ready to get back to work! We have a lot of new activities planned for our Center time, so we are ready for you bright and early Monday morning!

Be sure that you have plenty of paper, pencils, and school supplies to start the new year. We will send home a list supplies that we need for the new year. If you are out and about this weekend some of the items we need are Kleenex, Sanitizer, and Liquid Soap.

If you read any over the break, make sure you bring in your list to update your log. Also, don't forget the Math packets that were sent home on the last day!
See you Monday!!!!
