Sun Cooking Anyone??????

This was our first way to cook our S'mores this year... The sun was not oh so cooperative, but it did work eventually! We have another method that we will test soon! After all, can anyone really eat too many S'mores?
After about 1 hour... they were so yummy! Everybody was glad the sun came out!
We had a great time with Mr. S Friday while Mrs. Yadon was out of town! He really is getting to know the kids, and they really respond to him. He taught them some really cool stuff about energy in Science!Welcome to the 2nd nine weeks! We have many great lessons planned for you, and some great hands-on Math and Science! We also need to strive to meet the 2nd quarter reading goal (7 books). At this point you should be reading 1 chapter book per week. If you are not, you need to see us to let us help you select a book to read.

Friday is our pizza party, so don't forget to bring in your food item to share. There are lots of yummy sides that go with pizza!
We have a LOT going on this week... Tuesday - Don't forget your costume! Tuesday Night - Live Museum, Wednesday is our Reading Celebration, and Thursday is our trip to the Symphony! Hang on to your hats, it is going to be a fast week!

Teamwork... That's how we ROLL!

We understand the value of teamwork! We rely on our partners... we respect our partners! We know there is strength in two!...

An air plant that Mrs. Yadon brought in to observe and look at under the microscope! We had a great time putting together our 9 weeks performance task in Science. Density towers- where students were able to select their own liquids and floaters.
We were having way too much fun... goggles just bring the best out in us!

Colors around the room!

We are building great scientists!

Our new favorite location----- Destination Success!

A new Reading Center - Destination Success! Remember you can also access this from home!

Mahnoor and Noor practicing spelling words during center time! We are extremely busy working on our Live Wax Museum. Most students have purchased their backboards and have most of their research completed.
Pizza Party October 30th for 100% Parent Membership in PTA! Yeah... let us know if you would like to send in "extra's" to go with our pizza!

Lots and Lots of Assessments!

and lots and lots of computer activities! Working on clock games!
Destination Success was a huge SUCCESS today! The kids really enjoyed the different activities that we have loaded for them. The headphones are an added plus!
There are many math, reading, and science activities for our students to work on.

This school year has started a little different than those in years past. This school year we have new assessments required by the district and the State! A lot of assessments in fact. To date, we have taken Math and Science Benchmark tests, Music, Art, and PE pretests, FAIR testing, Mytests in Reading and Science, 2 district writing prompts, 1 Math formative, 2 Science formatives, a bunch of reading selection tests and a couple of stray quizzes here and there! And this is just in the first 33 days of school! We have a lot of information about our students and we are working to make sure they are getting what they need! We do this through many activities in the classroom. We also have a great opportunity for our students at home (as well as in the classroom) with Destination Success. Students finally have the opportunity to go on and work on skills in an exciting environment.
You can play around here:

Students can logon with the following information:
FirstNameLastName230
Password: 2 digit birthday month 2 digit birthday day
So, for example....
LucyStudent230
0228
Once you are in, feel free to click around and work on different items within the program. We will start working in FCAT explorer soon!
Of course, we are still teaching.. and working in small groups with our students, but this is a wonderful resource for them to access at home, the library, or where ever they have Internet access!
Remember: Reading Selection Tests, Vocabulary, and Spelling Tests are now on Mondays! These are open book tests, so be sure to review your story over the weekend to keep it FRESH!
Next week we will start our energy unit in Science! There will be some great activities to come, so make sure you are using respectful classroom behavior and attitudes at all times!

Congratulations Are In Order

Ethan successfully auditioned for the starring role of the 'Nutcracker' which will be presented in early December. He will share this role with another student. David is one of the 2 Fritz's. He'll be perfect in the role of the pesky brother. Many of our students bravely auditioned for the speaking parts. All students can participate in one of the dances. And yes, there are some fun ones for the boys too! The Russian dance and the Soldiers vs. Rats are tons of fun! Look for permission slips to stay after for tryouts. All 'Nutcracker' practices will be held after school on days to be decided by the teacher sponsoring each dance.

Ps- We Love Hearing from our Old Friends!

It is great to hear from our students from last year! We are glad that school is going so great for you! Keep us updated!
We see many of your younger siblings everyday and we always ask about y'all!

Enjoy your year!

Week 7 Already? It just can't be!

We have been working with phase changes and chemical changes in Science. Here are a few pictures from last week. I am not sure where the time goes during the week, but I am really trying to get back to daily postings! (I promise :-)

We are learning to be great SCIENTISTS!

Yeah! Look at Moana's face... that says it all! Unbelievable!

It just keeps getting better!
Wow! That orange balloon really blew up! What did you use?
Jared is carefully measuring the balloon to accurately record his findings.
JaVaughn, Macey, Ana, and Megan get ready to set-up their experiment.
And just how much vinegar and baking soda did you use?
because, the balloon just kept growing and growing!

It has been a very full six weeks of school! This year our district has required quite a bit of testing. We have completed benchmark testing in Math and Science, testing in Music, Art, and PE, and completed FAIR testing (which is a reading test). In addition we have also completed DRA's, and taken county assessments in Reading, Math, and Science. We continue to receive results and will be sending information home regarding your student's individual performance.
As we start the seventh week of school, we will continue to work on our Live Museum projects. Students received an outline sheet to help them collect research. Backboards are still available for $2.50. This is still the best deal in town. We will have student presentations in school October 27th, and that night our students will present for their families. Fifth grade teachers will also be serving a FREE Italian dinner for our parents and students that night! Please make sure to mark your calendars.

October is proving to be just as busy! We have started our Nutcracker Auditions, and practices will begin soon. This is a great activity for 4th and 5th grade students.

October 26th is a Teacher Planning Day.
There is a huge push to make sure parents and teachers are communicating through the planners this year. It is your student's responsibility to write in their planner daily, and it is our requirement that the planner be signed nightly by a parent. Please help us make this happen!
