Meet one of our Blog editors!

Meet Zelma.. she is one of our Blog editors! She is doing a great job taking all these pictures.
Our room has turned into a greenhouse if you can believe it. We are growing seeds in cups (no soil!), we are trying to root some flowers, and the plants in our terrarium are growing like crazy, not to mention some of our fish are still living!

Lauren and Nahjani are busy working!

President Obama has been bejeweled! Nice shirt Jasmine.

This is our new Calendar Math activities. We are learning about inches, gallons, and pounds.

We have finally made it to simple machines in Science. So far, we have had our classroom simple machine scavenger hunt, we have talked about what simple machines are, and how they make our lives easily. This week, we will actually start working with simple machines to observe and test how they carry loads, make work easier, and join forces to create complex machines.

These are spring scales and they are used to measure the force of gravity- I know, big stuff for 5th grade! Students may have seen forms of these in the grocery store. The next time you visit the grocery store, students can measure pounds.

These are Power Polygons and they are a big help with our Math Investigations Unit. We are using these to measure angles and create new shapes.

Here we are actually working with the power polygons.

Mrs. Miheret was our first visitor today. She came in and talked to us about how she came from Ethiopia. First, she had a stay in Kenya, and then she was allowed to leave and enter the U.S. She has been working to become a U.S. Citizen and just passed her citizenship test!

She was explaining to the students how the laws in Ethiopia were different and how the rights of people were almost none existent there.

She absolutely mesmerized our class!

Turinya and Lauren creating Energy Books for Science. We used just paper to create these really great books!

We were all busy working on our books!

Mrs. Rowan helps Cinnamon create her book!

Then we looked at objects on cards and tried to identify what type of simple machines they contained.

Wow! What an amazing Tuesday!

Wednesday students in Room 138 will celebrate meeting their quarterly Reading Goal with popcorn and a movie!
