We are looking forward to our field trip on Friday! The weather should be nice (72 degrees).
Students need to bring a bag lunch and a drink, and wear sneakers. We are going on a 2 mile hike!
Students should also consider wearing JEANS - we will be in the outside elements!
Howdy! Glad to See You Today!

How Cold Is iT??????
Well, it was so cold that when I came home from dance Wednesday night, I tossed my ice in the yard from my water bottle, and low and behold, when I went to get in my car this morning IT WAS STILL THERE!! I had to chuckle! It really was cold!
Then, I looked over at my neighbors founain, and it had ice on it, with a little trickle of water still running!
These next two pictures of our Reading Celebration movie "Shredderman" on Wednesday. We are pleased to report that ALL students in Room 138 got to stay and watch the movie. Thanks to Mrs. Parker for our snack (popcorn, pretzels, and water) and Jordan (carrots!)
During the movie we also practiced our tornado drill! We did the duck and cover, and it went pretty fast!
We have really been busy working on our Reading Strategies. These strategies help us refine our abilities to answer multiple choice questions using the search and find strategy. Most all the tests we take in Room 138 are open book for that very reason! We have seen a lot of students increasing their percentage correct simply by looking back!
Alexandria is focused and working - showing us her AWESOME skills!
Maddie, Mario, and Tyree are also busy working.
Emily is deep in thought remembering what she read!

Well.... I want to give a shout out to Najee' one of our students from last year. (And... a PUBLISHED POET !!) We miss you Najee' but your little sister is in Briley's class this year, so at least we get to see her! And I saw your wonderful mom a few weeks ago. I know you are doing the RIGHT thing in middle school!
We are very busy getting ready for the big test! We will continue to review good testing strategies. Our students have come so far this year, now we just need to make sure they have the confidence to "Stomp the FCAT!". At home you can help by practicing FCAT Explorer with them, let them explain their thought process to you. You can also read with them, review science concepts out of the science book, or review FCAT vocabulary. Half the battle in taking big tests is understanding the format!
Next week we will celebrate Valentines Day after our field trip to UNF. A list of student names will come home next Monday. Please be sure that if you bring in a Valentine that you have one for everybody! We will have some special sweet treats as well!
Dress warm, it is supposed to be another cold one tomorrow!

Meet one of our Blog editors!
These are Power Polygons and they are a big help with our Math Investigations Unit. We are using these to measure angles and create new shapes.
She was explaining to the students how the laws in Ethiopia were different and how the rights of people were almost none existent there.
She absolutely mesmerized our class!

What do you do with 3,200 items on the 100th day of school?
Why you make a few math problems and then you eat your bounty!
We had a great day today! Thanks for sending in your items to make our whole day celebration fantastic!
So, if each one of us brought in 100 items, how many items would each person get?
And then, can you sort and classify the items you received and make a pictograph?
Let's see... cookies, chips, candy.... OH MY!!!
Don't forget the cup full of veggies and dip! Everybody ate their celery, carrots, and cucumbers! Who said Room 138 didn't know HEALTHY!

That is Boris's bag of loot! Each student received a bag and a cup of vegetables!

There was "wonder in the air.... excitement all around" Because we knew soon, that all this food..

Turinya is working on her Book of the Month vocabulary story.
For our Book of the Month activity this month, we randomly pulled 24 vocabulary words out of the book, and then students will create their own story around those 24 words..
We are all busy writing! And we will share, and then read the Book of the Month and compare and contrast how are stories are alike.
Rainy day means inside BOARD GAMES!
Checkers anyone?
Mrs. West stopping by just to say "Hello!"
We have had a great time with our Social Studies unit. We have been researching where we came from. Check out our class map in the main hallway.
We have a strong force in Europe.

Well... we have had an absolute blast with your student for the last 100 days! It is hard to imagine that we are already past the halfway mark in school for the year. We continue to busy ourselves learning many new things, and enjoy seeing your students each day!
Don't forget field trip money is due Wednesday ($9.00). We will have more information on the end of the year trip soon. I believe that it will cost between $45.00 - $55.00 dollars.
Don't Stress The Test!

Happy 100th Day of School!
Technically speaking, that means we only have 80 days left in our 5th grade school year! That is not a lot of time when you think about all the learning that is yet to come! Not to mention a few holidays and Spring Break!
This month we will add another genre to our Reading Learning Unit. It is caused "Test Taking Strategies". We know our students are smart - it is evident in their daily work. However, we want to make sure they understand the language and logic of standardized tests. It will be important that they are at school everyday!
Our testing schedule is as follows:
Tuesday - March 10th - FCAT Math - Session 1
Wednesday - March 11th - FCAT Math - Session 2
Thursday - March 12th - FCAT Reading - Session 1 & 2
Friday - March 13th - Make-up Testing
Monday - March 16th - FCAT Science - Session 1
Tuesday - March 17th - FCAT Science - Session 2
We will start posting testing tips to help you help your student at home!
