Dear Mom and Dad,
I am in desperate need of school supplies. These first 8 weeks have really been busy for me. My immediate needs are notebook paper, eraser caps and pencils. I wrote this note in my planner as well, but I forgot to show it to you.
Thank you for helping me be successful in school.
Your son or daughter!
Howdy! Glad to See You Today!

An Amazing Night!
The sky was alive with color tonight! It was hard to capture just how vibrant it was. But WOW! it was so pretty to watch! The colors were so real! Almost like a painting!
The moon was out tonight! At first it was to the right of the lights, and as the night progressed it moved to the left!
And it kept right on moving to the West!

* It was fun to see an "old" student today, who reported that she has all A's in 6th grade. Of course we expected that from Mahnoor! Rock On!!
* Week 9 starts Monday. Please check with us to make sure you have turned in all your work! We will have a few more grades so there is still time to pull up any low grades! Remember to always do your best!
* Tomorrow is the last day to bring in your recorder money- Please bring in $4.50 so you will be able to play in Music
* PE is every other Wednesday. So far, it has worked out that it is on NON- Early Release days. Please make sure you are wearing shoes that you can run in LIKE - Sneakers, tennis shoes, JORDANS or whatever your style may be! Flats, sandals, and Crocs just really don't work well for PE.

Wonderful Wednesdays...
* Math Homework tonight: enVision page 164 25-33
Please have your student explain their thinking with these word problems. We are noticing that students are having difficulty figuring out how to set-up and work a word problem.
* Recorders - $ 4.50
The classes with the highest percent of recorders ordered get an ice cream party.
* Don't forget to look at the moon. Make sure you are updating your journal. Use good description words.
* First field trip - Marine Science Center November 19th - Permission slips will come home Thursday. This is a free field trip. Students will just need to bring a drink, bag lunch, and jug to collect shells. If you would like to go on this trip please let us know.
* The last day of the grading period is October 22. Please make sure you are checking Oncourse to monitor test corrections and missing assignments.

A Pretty Normal Week!
* We are also closing out our Division unit in Math. We will roll right on over to Fractions, Decimals, and Percents next. We are noticing that students are struggling with word problems- ESPECIALLY problems that have multi-step directions. You may invite your child to bring home their enVision book and work on some of the word problems with them. Not only solving, but talking about what the problem is asking, and how would they solve it, how would they determine if their answer is reasonable, and how could they check it.
* Today we made Moon Books. Over the next 30 days we will be observing and journaling about the Moon. This always seems to give students a hard time- Moon facts- Mrs. Yadon and I were talking today, and we both learned a lot about the moon on 3-2-1 Contact an old PBS after school Science show.
(You will need to pause the GREAT music at the bottom to watch the video)
This may help with the Moon Phases- very cute clip by Bill Nye the Science Guy!
