A Pretty Normal Week!

Laroy and Joshua share about their tribe!
Christian and Destiny - confident 5th graders!
We are practicing looking up answers in our Social Studies book - learning the "secrets" to taking and PASSING OPEN BOOK TESTS!!
Erisa has found the answer!

It's amazing, but it actually works-- showing kids how to find answers in a book! They did so great on the fist part of their test today!!! Our Social Studies projects ROCKED!! It was so amazing to see how many Native American cultures were alike, and yet so different. Next we will launch into Chapter 3 -

* We are also closing out our Division unit in Math. We will roll right on over to Fractions, Decimals, and Percents next. We are noticing that students are struggling with word problems- ESPECIALLY problems that have multi-step directions. You may invite your child to bring home their enVision book and work on some of the word problems with them. Not only solving, but talking about what the problem is asking, and how would they solve it, how would they determine if their answer is reasonable, and how could they check it.

* Today we made Moon Books. Over the next 30 days we will be observing and journaling about the Moon. This always seems to give students a hard time- Moon facts- Mrs. Yadon and I were talking today, and we both learned a lot about the moon on 3-2-1 Contact an old PBS after school Science show.
(You will need to pause the GREAT music at the bottom to watch the video)

This may help with the Moon Phases- very cute clip by Bill Nye the Science Guy!
